28. April 2014 by tom Leave a Comment

I was looking for a simple schematic representation of DNA – protein interaction and didn’t find anything of the sort on the web. Below is what I came up with. I hope that some of you might find it useful.   DNA The two strands of DNA are represented by two wavy lines, using the … [Read more…]

25. March 2014 by tom 21 Comments

By default, the table of contents (TOC), list of figures (LOF) and list of tables (LOT) are typeset as chapters when using the report document class. However, the level of the heading can be changed. In this post, I will show how to decrease the level of the TOC, LOF, and LOT to section. Similarly, … [Read more…]

Figure with border in LaTeX

20. February 2014 by tom 1 Comment

Often, figures have a white background which makes the figure border invisible on white paper. If a figure has several disconnected elements, it looks better to delimit them with a frame around figure. The adjustbox package scales, resizes, trims, rotates, and also frames LaTeX content. Conveniently, these functions can be exported to the \includegraphics command, … [Read more…]

Sub-caption above subfigures and subtables

23. January 2014 by tom 6 Comments

I was recently asked an interesting question about how to place a sub-caption on top of a sub-figure. By default, sub-captions are produced below sub-figures. When using the subfigure package, the answer is reasonably easy. The package has an option to move the sub-captions on top of the figure. However, I was curious how other … [Read more…]
