In certain cases it may be desirable to include “normal text” within an equation. There is a simple way to add “normal text” … [Read more…]

Cropping the output file to its content in LaTeX

12. September 2012 by tom 4 Comments

The documentclass options a4paper or letterpaper are certainly not the right choices when creating a set of equations or vector graphics using TiKZ for embedding in another document or standalone usage. Ideally, the output file is automatically set to fit its content, possibly with some whitespace around it. The following post describes two possible ways: … [Read more…]

Changing the font size in LaTeX

29. August 2012 by tom 60 Comments

Changing the font size in LaTeX can be done on two levels, either affecting the whole document or parts/elements of it. Using a different font size on a global level will affect all normal-sized text as well as the size of headings, footnotes, etc. By changing the font size locally, however, a single word, a … [Read more…]

(Semi-)automatic directory-tree in LaTeX

7. August 2012 by tom 16 Comments

The dirtree package produces really nice directory trees. The input follows a predefined structure. Manually typing all directories and files in a root directory is painful, even for a relatively short number of items. I wrote a short perl script that outputs the file structure in the right format. It works on Linux and Mac … [Read more…]
