Cropping the output file to its content in LaTeX

Ideally, the output file is automatically set to fit its content, possibly with some whitespace around it. The following post describes two possible ways: … [Read more…]

Using a different font size on a global level will affect all normal-sized text as well as the size of headings, footnotes, etc. By changing the font size locally, however, a single word, a … [Read more…]

Cross-referencing toc/lof/lot page numbers with content in LaTeX

24. August 2012 by tom 6 Comments

The hyperref package is extensive. Besides clickable hyperlinks, it provides an option to cross-reference page numbers in table-of-contents, list-of-figures and list-of-tables with the actual page. By default, the option is set to false. Loading the hyperref package without the linktopage option makes the list-entries clickable but not the page numbers.   Finally, always load hyperref … [Read more…]

Adding a shadow to a figure in LaTeX

13. August 2012 by tom 2 Comments

I recently wrote about cropping figures using the graphics bundle. Here is another fancy way to get more out of your figures. The fancybox package implements commands for various boxes such as a box with round corners. The command shadowbox creates a black box with a shadow. It works with normal text, in math mode … [Read more…]

(Semi-)automatic directory-tree in LaTeX

7. August 2012 by tom 16 Comments

The dirtree package produces really nice directory trees. The input follows a predefined structure. Manually typing all directories and files in a root directory is painful, even for a relatively short number of items. I wrote a short perl script that outputs the file structure in the right format. It works on Linux and Mac … [Read more…]
