The Path to your Figures

5. December 2017 by slackner 7 Comments

Most people prefer to not save their figures in the same directory as the tex file itself since it would clutter up quickly. A common solution is to save all figures in a sub-folder of the main directory and use instead of to import them (to use \includegraphics you need the graphicx package). Personally, I … [Read more…]

Figure with border in LaTeX

20. February 2014 by tom 1 Comment

Often, figures have a white background which makes the figure border invisible on white paper. If a figure has several disconnected elements, it looks better to delimit them with a frame around figure. The adjustbox package scales, resizes, trims, rotates, and also frames LaTeX content. Conveniently, these functions can be exported to the \includegraphics command, … [Read more…]

Mirroring text in LaTeX

19. November 2013 by tom 2 Comments

LaTeX has plenty of hidden treasures and it seems the graphics bundle is particular rich in surprises. For example, the package can crop figures on the fly (see my previous post). Recently, I was looking for a way to mirror text. Guess what, it’s the graphics bundle again. It implements commands for horizontal and vertical … [Read more…]

Adding a shadow to a figure in LaTeX

13. August 2012 by tom 2 Comments

I recently wrote about cropping figures using the graphics bundle. Here is another fancy way to get more out of your figures. The fancybox package implements commands for various boxes such as a box with round corners. The command shadowbox creates a black box with a shadow. It works with normal text, in math mode … [Read more…]

Writing a memo in LaTeX

7. March 2012 by tom 9 Comments

I was recently looking for a memorandum template when I came across a neat memo class, texMemo, written by Rob Oakes. It is based on the article documentclass and provides the following five commands: To: \memoto{}, From: \memofrom{}, Subject: \memosubject{}, Date: \memodate{}, and Logo: \logo{}. The usage is very simple, here is an example: The … [Read more…]
